The HQI system is ideal for high-light corals such as SPS, clams, anemones, and other invertebrates that require lots of light for optimum health and color. The Compact Fluorescent is sufficient for less light-hungry corals such as zoanthids, and mushrooms, and softies. It isn't ideal for clams or corals that require high light like SPS, and if you would like to keep such invertebrates then the HQI fixture is recommended.
