Vital Sine Refractometer

Keeping salinity levels in check is very important in a saltwater aquarium, especially in a smaller one such as a nano reef. Fluctuating salinity levels can be disastrous, and because nano reefs are small in size, it is much easier for water conditions to change quickly. If you don't monitor salt levels closely in a nano reef tank, you could end up with a very big problem.

Usually, the recommended way to measure salinity in a reef aquarium is with a traditional swing arm hydrometer, such as The Instant Ocean Hydrometer, however swing arm hydrometers tend to be very inaccurate and unreliable. When it comes to taking care of my nano reef, I like to use as accurate and reliable equipment as possible, and for measuring salinity I have turned to the Vital Sine Refractometer.

The Vital Sine Refractometer is one of the sharpest, most accurate refractometers on the market. It features a large and sharp display scale to provide the most accurate salinity and specific gravity readings, up to ±1.0% salinity and ±0.001 specific gravity. Additionally, built of durable stainless steel and protected with tough rubber, the Vital Sine Refractometer is built to last.

What makes the Vital Sine Refractometer really great though is its usability. Calibration is easy with the built-in calibration ring, and taking measurements of salinity and specific gravity are extremely simple. Shifts in ambient temperature (from 10°- 30°C) are also automatically compensated for, making the Vital Sine Refractometer a no-brainer to use, especially for those of us who would rather spend time watching our nano reefs instead of messing with testing equipment.
